How our solar charity was born!
It all started in 2019; the Directors of RESSCOTT LTD in November of that year visited a family in a rural area of southern Trinidad for a site visit. The family of 6 children (ranging from ages 2-14), having been a few miles away from the nearest utility connection, were using a diesel generator during part of the day and for a couple hours during the night to power essential appliances in their small, self built 20ft x 20ft single flat home.
The generator, as it approached its end of life, consistently failed, consumed appreciable amounts of fuel and was costly to maintain. This was just the tip of the iceberg; apart from falling within the poverty bracket, the mother of the family was forced to resign from her job to care for her ailing toddler. The family was still determined to install a solar system on their home even if it meant taking out a payment plan with RESSCOTT LTD.
Immediately after leaving the site, the directors Shamir and Graeme, without question, made up their minds to donate and commission a fully operable solar system for the family and offer other assistance (purchasing energy efficient appliances, school supplies etc.) out of their own pockets. However, having spoken to other partnering companies and reaching out to other corporate organizations, the support received was beyond what was expected! This marked the birth of T&T’s first and only Solar Energy Charitable Foundation.
The Penal family was gifted with a 3kW PV system capable of powering all household amenities and, in the following year, our charitable installations increased two fold! Currently, we are proud to say that we have reached an annual charitable installation target of 30kWp per annum with optimistic plans to reach 100kWp per annum in five years!
